I am an enthusiastic piano teacher with over 25 years experience of teaching children and adult learners.

Teaching young children and teenagers

Many of my pupils started with me as young children and I have been privileged to be a part of their musical lives for many years, helping them develop their skills and an enjoyment of music through playing and listening.

I choose tutor books carefully and gradually introduce different musical styles and composers so as to broaden a child’s musical experience.  As their own tastes develop, I involve children in the choice of pieces, carefully balancing the familiar with the new.

I have run school choirs and music ensembles, and as a special needs coordinator in a primary school,  I am very aware of the importance of adapting lessons for each individual’s strengths and challenges.  I can enter pupils for graded practical and theory examinations if they wish and have experience of all the main examination boards.

Teaching Adults

I very much enjoy teaching adult pupils, taking delight in helping them improve rusty skills or take up a new hobby and often fulfil a long-held wish to learn the piano.  In the last few years I have been learning both the clarinet and cello; taking lessons myself has given me a fresh insight into the perspective of the adult learner.
